THE KEEP: FORMS OF REFUGE
Prospect Refuge Gallery presents its second exhibition, The Keep, a solo presentation of new works by New York based artist and designer McKeever Donovan.
A Minnesota native now working in Brooklyn, Donovan returns to the Midwest with a collection that explores the intersection of theater, architecture, and domestic space. For this exhibition, Donovan draws inspiration from medieval keeps—fortified towers that functioned both as protective refuges and as stages for ceremony. His sculptural furniture, mirrors, and lighting pieces embody this duality of defense and display.
Through stainless steel, wood, and richly patinated surfaces, Donovan creates forms that shift between presence and disguise, sturdiness and performance. Arranged within the gallery like a set in two acts, the works invite viewers to oscillate between observer and participant, transforming everyday objects into protagonists in an unfolding drama.
